The Ritual of Saying Hello

When I come home from work and walk into the home, Lucy often gives me a prolonged, "Hi!" in a loud, sing-song voice. Then she stops what she's doing, toddles over to where I'm standing and hold her hands up and says, "Up!'' while looking me in the eyes. After I pick her up, she puts her arm around my shoulder and gives me a couple of pats with her hand. Sometimes she even says, "pat, pat."

I love it.
