Missing: Sleep

Do you see this slumbering baby?

She did not slumber last night.
Neither did Mom or Dad.
Sigh...she is pretty darn cute, though.

Visitors From Vegas

My Aunt Becky and Uncle Joe were in town yesterday. They kept talking about snowboarding, but I'm pretty sure they only came to play with me!

The Weigh In

The doctor calls me his "Little Peanut" so my Mom and Dad just had to get me this shirt when they found it.

AND the good news is, I gained a whole 9 ounces (and I only needed to gain 6-8). Mom and Dad are so proud of me. That brings me up to 9 pounds 11 ounces. I think that still makes me a Little Peanut though.

Update On Daddy

Daddy is doing really well (all things considered). The doctor did take his cast/splint off yesterday and he was SO happy, especially that he could shower again and not have to bathe. He will get his cool spring-loaded sling on Monday. He needs to exercise his arm every hour and he cannot put any sort of weight on it still-like he has to use his other arm to move it around. Poor Daddy-good thing he is so patient.

I Really Am Getting Bigger!

Mom was looking at these 2 pictures today and realized that although I may be a little Lucy, I really am getting lots bigger!

Grandma Has Been Busy!

Look at all these great shirts my Grandma has made me! Mom says when I get a little bigger they will fit me really well. Mom's favorite is the "I Love Lucy" one.

Tagged . . . All About Daddy!

Marc and me on the Brooklyn Bridge December 2005

Mommy's friend, Becky, tagged her and she is so excited because it means she gets to tell you all about Daddy! Ok...rather than re-type my responses in a separate entry, I'm going to append my answers to Katie's post, in blue-Marc

What is your Hubby's name?: Marc (Marcus when he's in trouble, but his real name is Marc-with a "C"!) I don't have a hubby, I have a wife, named Katie. That is her real, complete first name. I call her KT.

How long have you been together? How long did you date?: Our first date was August 23, 2005 (even though it did take him 3 months from when he originally asked me out to when we actually went out). We got engaged March 31st, 2006 (don't get engaged the day before April Fools-no one will believe you). We were married the following August and have been happily in love ever since. Three months is a long time, and I'm not sure why it took so long, but I kept thinking about Katie. Fortunately, it wasn't too late ;)

Who said I love you first?: I did! It was the first time I had been in a relationship where I had said it first-he told me he loved me a few minutes later. Yeah, that's how I remember it, too...

Who is smarter?: No question-HIM! But I am more organized ;) So then, who is smarter?!

Who does the housework?: I do, but he is very good to help whenever he can, I'm just home
more. And I enjoy being a homemaker. I do the trash, and before injury, would shovel the snow. Now I struggle to do the simplest task...sigh.

Who sleeps on the right?: Me, but it pretty much depends on whichever side is closest to the bathroom-especially when I'm pregnant. Depends on which way you're facing-the head or the foot...either way I'm closest to the baby and furthest from the bathroom.

Who pays the bills?: Me, but he makes the bulk of the money to pay them so I guess you could say we both do. Katie writes the checks, but I'm her sugar daddy...

Who cooks dinner?: Me-he did make me a yummy chicken and spinach salad once. Yes, and I BBQ, even in the snow. And, I will make breakfast when I'm home.

Who drives when you are together?: He does and I LOVE it! It's been a bummer having to be the one to drive all the time with his injury. Me. I think I'm a better driver, no matter who is is driving ;)

Who is more stubborn?: No question, ME! Everyday of our marriage I realize more and more that I married the kindest, most patient man in the world. Katie...but if I feel strongly about something, I will stick to my guns.

Who kissed who first?: Marc kissed me first. It stills makes me excited when I think about it. Ahhh...that makes me smile!

Who asked who out first?: He asked me out first, but I was way brave and left my business card with him and wrote on the back, "Call me". Who knew I could be so sassy? I was impressed that she had the moxie to leave her card with a hand-written invitation. How could I resist such an approach?

Who proposed?: Marc did-he took me back to where we had our first date-it was magical! It's a great story...ask me sometime.

Who has more siblings?: He does. He is the oldest of 7 and I LOVE his family. I do...Katie's the youngest of four.

Who wears the pants?: I know most of you would think that I do, but honestly I was so lucky to find this sweet gentle man who knows exactly how to put me in my place and always expect the best from me. We have a good partnership, with good give and take: sometimes I give, and sometimes I take. Overall, I feel like I'm really lucky to have such a great partner!

I tag: Jayna, Jackie, Jessica, Jordyn, Christine, Mindy, Kathryn and MARC What is this tag thing?? I tag the Pope and Gloria Estefan.

Thanks Grandma!

Don't I look cute in the new shirt Grandma Sampson made for me! She made me another one that says, "Sweet Pea" cause that's what my Mom and Dad call me. Designer clothing is so me.

A Sports Story

Mommy and Daddy don't pay for cable, so they can get only limited stations, most of which broadcast in Spanish or try to sell you something. Or both.

So when Mommy and Daddy decided to stay in one Friday night and watch TV, their choices were limited. They quickly identified the best option and settled in for an hour of...professional wrestling. It was shocking and overwhelming to Mom and Dad, who wished Uncle Kevin was there to help them understand the background, the rules, and of course, the drama.

That hour of TV had a lasting impact on Mommy and Daddy. So a few days later, when I had spit up on my purple dress and was stripped down to my underclothes, they quickly realized that I was in my professional wrestling outfit. We then had a "tag team mega death rumble in the jungle WWEFGH smackdown" right then and there. Here's a picture of me "bodyslamming" Mommy for the win.

Now, I just need a catchy name to go with my costume. Any suggestions?

Cupid Paid a Visit . . .

This was my first Valentine's Day and boy was it full of love!

Mom and Dad helped me make Valentines to send to all my cousins and I wore a shirt that said, "My heart belongs to Daddy". He sure is a fun guy, even more so now that he takes this medicine so the pain from his surgery isn't too bad.

Daddy got Mommy these BEAUTIFUL flowers with all sorts of fun colors. He made sure there was lots of yellow in the bouquet even though the lady thought it was a funny Valentine's request. Daddy just always knows how to do the little things to make Mommy feel like a queen. He also wrote her a poem, but Mommy said that it is special for just her and Daddy to read. Then he arranged for Grandma Kay to watch me while he took Mommy to lunch. Good job Daddy!

Mommy made Daddy a poster to help him know how awesome she thinks he is and how glad she is to have him. I think I am going to like this tradition of showing love to others on this special day.

I'm Growing Up . . .

When Daddy saw me in this outfit today he said I looked like I was ready to go to school!

Daddy's Surgery

Daddy had surgery yesterday to fix his ruptured biceps tendon. He went in at 3:30pm and was back home with me by 9:30pm. They call it "Same Day" surgery which is confusing to me because I thought all surgeries are done in the same day. Mommy says this just means he didn't have to stay the night at the hospital.

Mommy got to go and be with Daddy the whole time thanks to both my Grandmas, my Aunt Heidi, and my Aunt Jayna & Uncle Ryan being willing to watch me for different time chunks. THANKS GUYS! I sure am loved.

This is Daddy's "Popeye" arm as the surgeon called it-the tendon should be pulling his bicep down, but it's not! Daddy didn't have to flex for this picture.

This is how they make sure they operate on the correct arm once they got Daddy back into the operating room. Daddy wrote "Yes" and the doctor wrote his name in Chinese-does this make anyone else nervous?

This is Daddy trying to smile at Mommy when the surgery was all done and Mommy got to be with him again. Mommy said he had to wake up from a lot of medicine.

The best part of all was that Mommy and Daddy scored some (hard to find in stores) Kozy Shack VANILLA pudding. Mmmmmmmm

And now Daddy needs to do a lot of this so he can get all better. The Doctor said he will have no mobility for the first 2 weeks, some mobility with a cool "spring loaded" sling for the next 4 weeks and then he will not have to have any moveent restrictions after 6 weeks from now. He will be limited on what he can lift (up to 25 pounds in the first 3 months and no more than 50 until 6 months after his surgery) good thing I only weigh a little over 9 pounds.

Seven Things About Daddy

Mommy tagged Daddy to list seven random facts about himself:

1) Hates to get shots.  His hands get all sweaty and cannot watch.
2) Runs at the same pace, whether it's a 5K, 10K, or as part of a triathlon.
3) Has to check the doors at night just before going to bed, otherwise he cannot sleep.
4) Likes to play with computer databases and spreadsheets.
5) Would like to own a drum set and learn how to play it.
6) Is afraid of heights.
7) Doesn't reliably check his cellphone voicemail.

You Are So Beautiful To Daddy

Daddy tells me that he loves me, and I know that he does.  I hear him say it to Mommy, too, but he has a different look in his eyes.  He told me the other day that he is so grateful for Mommy and her devotion to our family:  She often goes without sleep so I can eat, and she performs many acts of service to help Daddy out without him knowing or asking.  Daddy had a little tear in his eye as he told me that she is his best friend, his partner and inspiration in everything, and that can't imagine life without her.

He's a lucky Daddy.

OUCH!!!

Daddy was helping to move a treadmill on Saturday and ended up rupturing his bicep tendon! This is no good. He has seen 3 different Doctors and will have surgery to reattach it tomorrow. We will keep you posted. Poor Daddy-I think he did feel pretty cool though when the Doctor said this generally only happens to big strong men ;)

7 Random Facts About Mommy

Aunt Jayna tagged Mommy so she needs to say 7 random facts about herself now . . .

1) She adds addresses whenever she sees them (what's weird is her sister does the same thing) for example: 1247= 1+2+4+7 which equals 14 in her mind.
2) She is borderline addicted to Craigslist, but always has to start with the "baby & kids" section.
3) When she changes the radio station she has to start with the button the furthest on the right and go backwards.
4) She LOVES Kozy Shack puddings (especially vanilla).
5) She can't fall asleep unless something is covering her ears.
6) She checks old friends' blogs almost daily, but has been embarrassed to tell them because she feels somewhat like a stalker.
7) She has never seriously dated anyone under 6 feet tall (she's 5 feet 3 inches). Good thing Daddy is 6 feet because he's her best date of all!

Three Months

Dear Lucy-

I can't believe how quickly time has gone by. For some reason, three months seems like quite a milestone in my mind-maybe because you're a quarter of a year old now? I don't know...maybe because if you round up, you're a year old. ;)

Here are ten things I've learned and observed this past month:

10) You always win when we have a staring contest.
9) You have discovered your hands and can fit most of your fist into your mouth.
8) When I call your name, you will stop doing what you're doing and look around for me.
7) Your hair stands straight up when in a ponytail. Your hair stands straight up when it's not.
6) You love to watch yourself in mirrors.
5) Sometimes you will stop nursing and stare at Mom with a look on your face that can only be described as pure gratitude.
4) You like to talk when I talk. This is tricky for everyone because I will stop to listen to you, but then you stop and Mom doesn't get to hear the rest of the story.
3) I love to watch you because I never know when you will do something new.
2) I love the sound of your voice.
1) Frequently I wake up in the middle of the night so I can listen to you coo in your sleep.

Love,
Dad

What I've Learned As A Mommy Of Three Months . . .

1. Time goes much faster when you are outside of my tummy.
2. Two month olds are not supposed to sleep through the night . . . oops!
3. I now know what it means to "melt" because I melt every time you smile at me.
4. Even little babies love cheesy kid songs (I need to get ready for this).
5. EVERY child is different.
6. A five hour chunk of sleep is far better than four- 1 1/2 hour chunks of sleep.
7. You have the most patient Daddy that ever existed.
8. I spend every day with you and I still miss holding you if I ever leave for more than 30 minutes.
9. I don't always have the time to complete everything I start-like this list . . .

Happy One and a Half Years!!!

Mommy and Daddy have been married for one and a half years (I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the idea that they actually had a life before me). As part of the celebration, Mommy told me about 18 wonderful memories (that's one for each month) she has had with Daddy. Here they are in order of appearance as she would recall them to Daddy (she says she'll save the real mushy stuff for when he gets home):

1) Meeting you at Meadow with Memphis the Pug because you wanted to get your blood pressure taken (wink-wink).
2) My business card-how did I get to be so bold?
3) Our first date at Ottavios and getting lost in the conversation we didn’t even notice they had closed.
4) David’s Porsche in Vegas
5) Being lost in our own world at the Oregon Coast
6) New York City with Hailey & Melia-Hard Rock Café, China Town, Koronet's Pizza, The MOMA . . .
7) NYC just the two of us-jogging through Central Park, catching a show, Time Square, the pink hat . . .
8) Our trips to Idaho Falls: the yummy “hot chocolate”, meeting for breakfast and cross country skiing at a random golf course.
9) You proposing to me at Ottavios with yellow roses and white daisies. “We’ve come full circle”
10) Being sealed for time and all eternity in the Provo Temple
11) Our honeymoon and anniversary trip to The Homestead
12) Cruising the Southern Caribbean with four other really cool people
13) Our countless hikes-especially those to Stewart Falls
14) Finding out we were pregnant and calling our family at 5am to share the news
15) Walking to Allen’s in the snow to buy some noodles
16) Serving our Humanitarian Mission to Albania together.
17) Buying our first home together
18) The birth of our beautiful daughter.

Morning Time

Mommy says her favorite time of the day of with me is in the morning. We wake up together, she cuddles me, she feeds me, she gets me all dressed and pretty, she reads me books, she sings me songs, she tells me stories and I pay her back with great big smiles and cooing noises that I know she just loves.
