Last night . . .

As I was getting ready to lay David down at one in the morning (after he had been wide awake since 9pm) I found my exhausted body just had to stop and take a moment to hold him close to me a bit longer. I looked at him and my heart felt so complete. Any fear I had about having children this close in age had disappeared and I was so grateful for this season of my life. I know that the timing of every chapter in my life has been right and in this current time of sleepless nights, endless diapers, never ending laundry and dishes I am again finding myself so grateful to be enjoying the ride.

I find myself frequently reflecting on the following poem:

Mother, O Mother, come shake out your cloth,
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing, make up the bed,
Sew on a button and butter the bread.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She’s up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.
Oh, I’ve grown as shiftless as Little Boy Blue,Lullaby, rockabye, lullaby loo.
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
Pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peek-a-boo
The shopping’s not done and there’s nothing for stew
And out in the yard there’s a hullabaloo
But I’m playing Kanga and this is my Roo
Look! Aren’t his eyes the most wonderful hue?
Lullaby, rockaby lullaby loo.
The cleaning and scrubbing can wait till tomorrow
But children grow up as I’ve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs; Dust go to sleep!
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep
.

That is a fabulous picture of David. And I love the poem. It should be the official mother of young children theme. :)

Cute picture, and I love that poem.
It's good to remind ourselves that this is a short season in our lives and to relish it while we're living in it. I love the song by Trace Atkins "You're Gonna Miss This", it helps remind me how fast it will go, so to appreciate the moments while I have them.
